Agathe von Trapp varttuu kuuden sisaruksensa kanssa perheen kotitalon Erlhofin suojissa. Rakkaan äidin kuollessa Agathen maailma romahtaa. Suloääninen tyttö päättää olla enää koskaan laulamatta. Sen sijaan hän pyyteettömästi huolehtii kodista, sisaruksistaan ja isästään Georg von Trappista.
